The 'MS' or 'Limmer' clone, also known by a number of other names, is reckoned to be the same Syrah clone as that used in Henschke's Hill of Grace, and is the key to Trinity Hill's style. Winemaker Warren Gibson sees the wine having a more complex European, textural style rather than the more fruit-focussed expression prevalent in the Hawkes Bay. Trinity Hill takes a Burgundian approach to its vinification with 25% whole clusters employed. It's an often-used technique in the Rhone valley appellations with Syrah. Viognier also has an influence,
with co-fermentation on the skins.
